Arguably the best sedan this side of the Civic, the new Honda City has created quite a ripple in the country ever since its launch a few months ago. Built on the principle of delivering maximum drive and ride pleasure, the City is a fine machine and deserving of its status as the leader of the Indian mid-size sedan segment.
The aerodynamic "Arrowshot Form" design of the new City helps it to stand apart from its conventionally designed competition. Dynamic, lithe, sporty and futuristic are some of the words that can be associated with the City's new design, and one can only guess how much the aspirational value of the sedan has increased after the makeover. Alloy wheels that are surprisingly missing is perhaps the only drawback from an exterior which is almost a work of art, right from the captivating radiator grille, sharp headlights to the sleek overall body frame.
The all-new Honda City's 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine produces class-leading power and coupled with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission in the case of the top-end variant, it belts out an impressive 118PS of power and a torque of 146Nm. The Honda City excels on an all-round basis, especially in the case of acceleration and drive quality. The i-VTEC engine is tuned to deliver maximum output at low fuel consumption while being environmentally friendly.
The Honda City's interior is delightful to say the least and looks every inch like the interior of a modern day sedan that it is. Spacious, comfortable and practical are some of the virtues of the City's interior and teamed with the aesthetically appealing dual-colour tone dash, makes for quite an impressive sight.
The Honda City is equipped with a range of active as well as passive safety features, apart from comfort and convenience features. While ABS, dual SRS airbags and the G-CON technology ensures a safe ride, the integrated audio system, air-con and multi-function steering wheel makes sure that the time spent inside the car is a pleasant one. However, looking at competition like the Maruti Dzire, the new City sure could have done with an automatic climate control.
The base 1.5E model retails for an ex-showroom Delhi price of Rs. 7,51,000, while the 1.5S (M/T) and the 1.5S (A/T) are priced at Rs. 7,99,900 and Rs. 8,69,000 respectively. |
